A Day in the Life of PCA North

One of the main reasons I enjoy blogging is to have the opportunity to share the great learning that happens each and every day at PCA North!  From time to time, I will have blog posts simply entitled..."A Day in the Life of PCA North."  These posts are intended to share with you, our readers, the day to day learning that takes place on a "regular" day.

Today, I just grabbed my camera, walked around, and visited classrooms.  It was "regular school" as I like to say - meaning no special assemblies, field trips, activities, etc.  This is a glimpse into a typical day in the life of our campus.

PreK 3

Students were doing a craft, adding personal details to create a self-portrait.

I loved this conversation I heard during my visit:

Mrs. Dysart:  When you color the hair on your person's head, make individual marks to show your pieces of hair.

Student:  (Understands and starts drawing lines for his hair)

Mrs. Dysart:  Did you know that the Bible says God knows the exact number of hairs on our heads?

Student:  How does He do THAT?

Mrs. Dysart:  Well...I don't really know how He does it - but he is GOD and we can trust that if the Bible says itHe does it!

PreK 4

I found PreK 4 enjoying recess.  We are BEYOND BLESSED that we get to use the "tubes" here at the Prestonwood North campus.  As the teacher, Mrs. McAdams and I were discussing, one day we are going to wear jeans and climb through these tubes ourselves.  This looks like a child's dream (or a child at heart!).

PreK 5/ Kindergarten

Mrs. Zarycki's class was enjoying their teddy bear unit.  Students brought their bears and completed several activities involving throughout the day.  When I was in the classrooms, students had just given their bears new names.  Last week, students learned what their own names meant.  Today, each student named their bear based upon the characteristics for which they wanted their bear to be known. Mrs. Zarycki helped students write a sentence telling at least two characteristics of their bear.  Their sentence was then cut up into individual words.  Each student was able to recognize they were READING as they identified the words and put the sentence back in order.

FIRST GRADE

When I popped into the first grade classroom, they were working in their math problem solving notebooks.  I'm telling you, this is a class of thinkers who needs the additional challenge.  Mrs. Fuller was doing an excellent job of keeping the wheels of learning turning!  Students were using their number lines to help them determine if they should add or subtract.

SECOND GRADE
Second graders were watching a geography lesson via the learning app Brain Pop.  Students were getting a general overview of the seven continents and some of the natural landmarks of each.  Students took a quiz using their dry erase boards so that Miss Clark could get a quick look at each student's understanding.

THIRD GRADE
Third graders were had just gotten back to their rooms after sharing their knowledge of a complete sentence with the PreK rooms.  Through the use of a fun chant and the curriculum of our Shurley English program, students could recite everything needed to create a complete sentence.

FOURTH GRADERS
I found fourth graders in Spanish!  They greeted me in Spanish and shared some of the basics.  It was quite impressive.  I really should hang out in that classroom much more often because I learned a lot in a short amount of time!

You will hear me say this often because I really feel this way: I have the BEST job in the world!  Really...Can you imagine the joy of watching students learn in a loving, strong academic environment - where everything is viewed through the TRUTH of God's Word?  It's pretty awesome!
